What is working well for this older triathlete.

A good story involves overcoming obstacles. Here are some obstacles that have worked out favorably so far.

Back pains have been worked out through strengthening. Strengthening my core muscles, abs, has helped me keep my spine aligned. I used to go to an excellent chiropractor and with his help and by working on my core I haven’t had to see him in a long time.

When a muscle in the back hurts, strengthening and developing the flexibility of the muscle helps. Pulling a weight towards that area through the chest towards the muscle in the back works well. Imagine how an archer pulls a bow or a rowing action the pulls a weight towards the torso. As close as you can, pull the weight to your chest where it hurts you in your back.

Stay hydrated and go to the bathroom. Lower back pain could be the kidneys needing water.

For neck pains, strengthen neck muscles. Stretching seems to test neck muscles. Use light resistance to strengthen the neck to bring back balance and alignment.

Stand with a hand behind you to bring your shoulder back. When you have a moment while standing have the back of your hand (not palm) against your glutes and then move it up to your lower back to test if the shoulders are too far forward. Do that exercise where you square your forearm with a wall or door way to stretch chest and shoulder.

Spin backwards on an indoor bike for your hamstrings.

Squeeze your hands and feet when they are sore or stiff. By making fists while swimming, the stiffness from holding my hands in the same position has gone away. By squeezing my feet with about seventy pounds pressure from a weight machine meant for calves, the soreness is massaged out of the area.

Record the little things that work for you that are keeping you healthy and independent. Be diligent in caring for yourself. That will make for a good story.
